The plaid pillows...

Here is the photo of the festive fall pillows that my mother made. I think that they look fun on my Eames rocker. Again, the fabric is from Joann's.

Halloween 2009...

This year we all went out for Halloween. I have been dreaming up my costume for about a year now. Ever since I saw clips of the documentary, then the musical, then finally the entire documentary of Grey Gardens I knew that I had to be Edie Beale.







I began gathering items here and there to complete the look. The stockings from Target, the scarf from a thrift store purchased years ago. I was doing my research online to fine the perfect photo of her for the coshtume. I was taking notes and emailing myself photos to take with me to the thrift store.

So, we headed out to a local thrift store. Imagine my surprise when I saw that the entire store was half off. I was running wild. There were so many choices. I finally decided on a brown skirt with a black turtle neck. As we were checking out...I spied the perfect "fur" coat, it was only $9 with the discount. What do you think about the final coshtume?

My new chair...

I found this excellent chair on craigslist. I was so excited! I made Josh call the lady though, I was trying to do the exchange through email only. Phone conversations cause me such anxiety. She was out in Tinley Park, so off we went.

She opened her fence to the backyard, she had an enormous backyard with covered furniture strewn throughout. I am going to refer to her as coyote lady...you will see why soon. Anyway, she opened her garage to expose treasures of midcentury furniture. I ended up picking out the chair I saw online, as well as a globe light. She said that she had more inside, so off we went.

She was then distracted by her coyotes. She had 6 coyotes that she introduced us to. It was a bit strange. Meanwhile, she rescued 2 lady bugs from drowning in the coyote's water dish. She claimed that she was an animal activist.

Inside the home, she was a midcentury furniture hoarder. There was so much furniture! I will definitely keep her in mind when I need another lamp or piece of furniture.



Oh, check out the photo of the pillows that my mother made! I saw the fabric at Joann's and I had to have it. She did a great job, especially with the yellow piping! She also made some plaid ones for the winter. I will post photos of those later!

Road Trip...

Yesterday a few of us hopped in the car and traveled to Heinz Orchard in Green Oaks. It was actually more fun than I had imagined.

Then is was off to Milwaukee. I had never been to Milwaukee, so the road trip was a bit more exciting. I had seen on one of my favorite blogs (BackGarage) mention of a great thrift store: St. Vincent De Paul Society. I was not let down, the store was one of the best. I found these items:





After purchasing these treasures, it was still too early to head back! We decided to visit more of Milwaukee. We were starved after the early morning apple picking, so we visited a local restaurant The National. The food was tasty! I really enjoyed the lights, perhaps I will keep my eye open for similar lights.





At another local shop, I saw these paintings which were quite fun. They were by an artist, Christina Vang.





From here it was off to Anthropologie, where I spied this great (but expensive chair).



We were done with this small shopping area, but had cheese and outlet shopping on the brain, so the adventure continued. This photograph was outside Tim & Tom's Cheese Shop.



So, I think that the best part of the trip was finding a Restoration Hardware Outlet. As I was perusing the aisles, I came upon this treasure:



The medicine cabinet was originally priced at $359; however, I was able to get it for 90% off! I could not pass it up. Now, I am just hoping that my father is able to make it work.

So, that was my weekend road trip. Perhaps more photos will follow of the orchard.

Sun room...

I have started S L O W L Y to begin making my house a representation of me. It is taking longer than I thought, and more expensive. I am starting here and there with no real plan, which is driving Josh crazy! Josh has finished painting the bathroom, which once I take photos, I will share with you. But until then...

I purchased these pillows at HomeGoods, which I posted earlier:





Well, since then, Lola really enjoys sitting on them. Josh continues to remind me that these large pillows are in fact dog pillows! I continue to disagree. Well, one day while searching the Internet, Josh discovered this picture. He believes that these photos further support his claim that these are dog pillows.



I have noticed slight differences between the photographs and my pillows. I refuse to accept the possibility that these pillows are dog pillows!
