Winter season...

I have decided that I would attempt to decorate for Christmas. I don't have many decorations, and what decorations I put out, I will take photos.

Something completely much more exciting than my decorating, are the stools that I am including in the photo. My brother-in-law cut these up for me. I was able to pick them up this past weekend.

The stools were free for me, but similar ones at West Elm are $229. Only a slight difference between mine and their stumps. I prefer mine.

Central Illinois...

I am visiting my family in Central Illinois for a bit for the holiday. I did some black Friday shopping too. I was able to check out some local thrift stores, not excellent however. I saw this chair. I think that it is a reproduction, so I passed it up.

Fireplace...

Traveled out to the suburbs hoping for a deal or two. When we were at Lowe's we stumbled upon this treasure....

It was originally $400, but we got it for $125! I could not pass it up! I was really really wanting a fireplace in the house. However, it does not have the electrical components necessary, but those are purchases for another day.

We steel-wooled the fireplace today. Hoping to paint it a white color (still not certain how white).

Eventually, I would like the front room to look like this (Imagine a fireplace in the middle)...

Ikea wishlist...

Went to ikea today. I saw a few things that I would like to have. Here are just a few...

The only thing that I would probably actually purchase would be the floor lamp.

Laundry Room...

So, there is this small room that little can be done with. We have decided that it would be the perfect laundry room. So, with the help of my father...we are slowly turning the room into a laundry room. It has become a major renovation. He has had to drill holes, run pipes from the basement up, cut holes in walls.

The plumbing and electrical is completed, and the floor has been laid. Josh and he were busy cutting the flooring for the room. Oh, the flooring was found in the bargain section of Ikea.

The washer and dryer are to be delivered this weekend! No more Bubbleland my friends!

Do stay tuned for the painting...it should be done in a few days!

Upstairs bathroom...

The bathroom has been finished for quite some time now, but I was still looking for the accessories. I think that I have found all of the items that I have been searching for. Here are some before and after photos. I think that my favorite part is the curtain!

And After...

Random postings...

Sorry for the random postings. I am out & about with my iPhone. I thought the images were too great to pass by.

Scout also had a great idea of using a door frame as a mirror. Sorry I didn't get a great photograph. I was nervous about taking photos in the store.

Plaid & more plaid...

Just discovered this fantastic store in Andersonville called Brimfield. If you are in the area you must check it out! I loved this bench...

Entryway...

Found this at the brown elephant. I think it would make a great entryway piece to stash my keys & mail! Best part, it was only $5. Hope people can get past that it was a headboard.

Plans...

Think I will paint the inside of my black cabinet this color. I received a similar color free in the mail from Glidden. Can't wait!

Salvation army...

Today on my day off, I explored a local thrift store. I wasn't that impressed with the selection. I feel it was a bit overpriced. Some interesting items were a lamp & small bench. Still too expensive to nab.

Trip to nearby Anthropologie...

Just left a local location, there were so many things I needed. Here are a few photos:

Great small candle stick holders.

Great lamps.

Perfect measuring spoons. These I may come back for.

Coyote globe light...

Got this steal for $25 from "dances with coyotes" lady. Now, where to put this?...

The plaid pillows...

Here is the photo of the festive fall pillows that my mother made. I think that they look fun on my Eames rocker. Again, the fabric is from Joann's.

Halloween 2009...

This year we all went out for Halloween. I have been dreaming up my costume for about a year now. Ever since I saw clips of the documentary, then the musical, then finally the entire documentary of Grey Gardens I knew that I had to be Edie Beale.

I began gathering items here and there to complete the look. The stockings from Target, the scarf from a thrift store purchased years ago. I was doing my research online to fine the perfect photo of her for the coshtume. I was taking notes and emailing myself photos to take with me to the thrift store.

So, we headed out to a local thrift store. Imagine my surprise when I saw that the entire store was half off. I was running wild. There were so many choices. I finally decided on a brown skirt with a black turtle neck. As we were checking out...I spied the perfect "fur" coat, it was only $9 with the discount. What do you think about the final coshtume?

My new chair...

I found this excellent chair on craigslist. I was so excited! I made Josh call the lady though, I was trying to do the exchange through email only. Phone conversations cause me such anxiety. She was out in Tinley Park, so off we went.

She opened her fence to the backyard, she had an enormous backyard with covered furniture strewn throughout. I am going to refer to her as coyote lady...you will see why soon. Anyway, she opened her garage to expose treasures of midcentury furniture. I ended up picking out the chair I saw online, as well as a globe light. She said that she had more inside, so off we went.

She was then distracted by her coyotes. She had 6 coyotes that she introduced us to. It was a bit strange. Meanwhile, she rescued 2 lady bugs from drowning in the coyote's water dish. She claimed that she was an animal activist.

Inside the home, she was a midcentury furniture hoarder. There was so much furniture! I will definitely keep her in mind when I need another lamp or piece of furniture.

Oh, check out the photo of the pillows that my mother made! I saw the fabric at Joann's and I had to have it. She did a great job, especially with the yellow piping! She also made some plaid ones for the winter. I will post photos of those later!
